What Most Destroys the Potential for Growth in Our Relationships?

Image
In the Relationship Workshop, we spoke of the need for sincerity as key to cultivating growth in relationships. I personally have failed many times in this in my relationships with others, but I seek to improve.  I hope you will, through the biblical insight and actions shared in this article, and subsequent articles, join us in improving our sincerity in relationships. GOD CULTIVATES RELATIONSHIP THROUGH DEMONSTRATION OF SINCERITY “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom 5:8) God proved His sincerity to us by sacrificing his greatest treasure for us, His own Son. His amazing sacrifice not only paid the price for our sin, but won us to Him.  He gave us a very convincing demonstration that our good and gain was His intention.   He was seeking for us far more than He was seeking from us.  He proved His sincerity. "We love because God first loved us."  (I Jn 4:19) The more we unders...

Concerned About Spouse's Influence on Your Child? Tim Bryant

Image
When you are worried about the environment that your spouse is creating for your child, there may be some wise things you need to do to reduce those problems. Yet, your greatest need is to let the Word keep your faith strong in Christ's sovereign grace so that fear does not control your thoughts, actions and emotions.  Fear-based reactions instead of faith-based responses greatly reduces the spiritual influence you will have in your child's life and circumstances.  You, nor God, nor your children are victims of your spouse’s ungodliness.  If you think this way, you will be overcome by the evil instead of overcome the evil with good.  Your God is sovereign!  In the end He wins and those He loves! (Ps 46:10-11; Romans 8:28-29). How does God intend the following passages to comfort and guide you in the concerns you have over the unspiritual influence that your spouse (or ex-spouse) is having upon your child(ren)?  Use the Practical Biblical Meditation shee...

Can a Person Really Change?

Image
BEGINS AUGUST 26 - LIVE OR DISTANT LEARNING ONLINE I have been director of the Lowcountry Biblical Counseling Center ( www.lcbcc.org) in Charleston  South Carolina for the past 11 years.  We have seen God do great things for His glory in many lives and marriages.   The reason for the successes is that our counseling seeks to be carefully and methodically based on the biblical theology of sanctification.   The testimonies that come out of LCBCC affirm to you that people can truly change when Christ is at work through the truth of His Word.  No one is in a hopeless state. But God must supply you power to change as you supply the effort. Both are needed! You cannot change on your own, but God will not choose change for you. Indeed God will, if He loves you like a Father, place you in some very difficult circumstances to persuade you to change. (See James 1:2-4, John 15:3, Heb 12:6,7 & 10-12, 1 Peter 1:6-9) He has done this in my life. But in ...

Getting to the Heart of Anger & Conflict

Image
All Sinful Anger Is Not Caused by Provoking Situations & People But by Idolatrous Desires of the Heart – James 4:1-10 (James 4:1-10 NASB)  What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? {2} You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. {3} You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. {4} You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. {5} Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: "He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us"? {6} But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE." {7} Submit the...
